Development
of Objectives of the Millennium: The Goal
The
goal to be achieved is summarized in an ambitious agenda
agreed on in September 2000 by
the Government leaders of the whole world and denominated
DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVES OF THE MILLENIUM.
These Objectives establish specific goals to improve
the living conditions of the world population for the
year 2015.
This will imply to significantly
reduce poverty, hunger, diseases, illiteracy, degradation
of the environment and discrimination against women.
Challenges
of Paraguay
Accomplishing the Objectives of the Millennium in Paraguay
means that by 2015 at least:
- 578,000 Paraguayan men and women
will be outside the extreme poverty conditions.
- 133,000 children who today are outside
the formal educational system (from5 to 14 years old)
will have access to Basic Education.
- 140 women will not die because of
causes related to complications in the delivery each
year.
- More than 2,500,000 Paraguayan men
and women will have access to drinking water, and consequently,
will have better conditions of hygiene and health.
