Definition of Social Expenditure

Social Expenditure is that done by countries in their effort to improve in a direct manner the quality and standard of living of their respective inhabitants. It includes the expenditure done by the government through the General Budget of the Nation in the areas of education, health, social protection, labor, and housing.

Within the frame of the project, it is intended to make a follow-up on the Social Expenditure in 5 aspects that are considered to have priority.

• Access to Initial and Basic School Education
• Access to a package of basic health services
• Reduction of extreme poverty
• Reduction of malnutrition and the risk of malnutrition, access to drinking water and basic sanitation.

The access to primary health care, use of clean water and appropriate sanitary installations, basic education, the networks of social protection and, in general, the increase of opportunities to escape the trap of poverty, represent the essential components on which human development is based, and which are currently recognized as human rights.
